Alvydas Šlepikas is a writer, poet, screen writer, and film director. His novel “Mano vardas – Marytė” (“In the Shadow of Wolves“, translated by Romas Kinka) is a Times Book of the Year, 2019. It was also announced a Book of the Month in the United Kingdom. The first edition came out in 2011; there have been nine in Lithuania since then. The novel was recognised the Book of the Year 2012 and entered into the list of top twelve most creative books. It also earned the award of the Lithuanian Writer’s Union that year and the Patriots Award the next year. The novel has been translated into English, Polish, German, French, Latvian, Estonian, Ukrainian, and Dutch.
The latest collection of poems by Alvydas Šlepikas “Mano tėvas žūsta” (My Father Perishes), published in 2019, embraces texts selected by the author from both new and earlier collections and the anthology. His poems and short stories are being published in foreign anthologies, almanacs, and periodical press.
Andrius Bialobžeskis is a Lithuanian professional actor, decorated with the Golden Cross of the Stage in 2004 and the Silver Crane in 2011. Andrius is broadly known to the Lithuanian theatre audience for his roles played in theatre and cinema. He performs, loves poetry, has a feel for it, reads or even sings it with emotional engagement.
The actor is convinced that ‘poetry is a good cave for acting. You’re free to find emotions that you need there and to associatively create a plot. And people listen to poetry in a good way. We have a jewel and cherish it. It’s good that it’s not massive.’
